Family Health Care Decisions Act
The legislation proposed by the
NYS Task Force on Life and the Law was
introduced, with some modifications, in the early
1990s.
Assembly Health Committee chair, Richard
Gottfried
discussed this legislation in his Health News
Bulletin in December 1994. The Task Force has prepared a Questions and Answers page about the bill.
The most recent version of the FHCDA are available at the Assembly
website:
A.7729 and
S.3164.
The New York Family Health Care Decisions Act has been supported by a
number of organizations
representing a cross section of New York health care, religious and
human services groups.

One issue which has been part of the debate is the question of artificial
hydration and nutrition. This is a complex issue that is not easily
resolved by slogans and simple answers. A full discussion of this issue
is available on this site: Artificial Hydration and
Nutrition page
